Daredevil Rewatch: What the Hell Is Happening with Fisk’s Narrative?
As the return of Daredevil looms ever closer, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to revisit season 3 of the greatest Marvel TV series ever created. Yes, I said it. Come at me.
It took a minute to pick up speed, but when it finally did, it was a whirlwind. Matt Murdock had hit rock bottom, doubting his faith and questioning if he should even wear a mask anymore. Meanwhile, the Kingpin? He was living lavishly in his upscale penthouse, manipulating the FBI like a true puppet master.
I was a tad apprehensive about *Born Again*, especially given the lighter, more comedic tones evident in *Hawkeye* and *She-Hulk*. However, I must admit, the recent teasers and that surprising 18+ rating have somewhat pacified my concerns. It looks like we’re in for some genuinely harsh violence, reminiscent of the old Netflix era.
Still, Marvel’s history with continuity has been, let’s say, *dodgy* lately. After rewatching season 3’s conclusion, I’m left with a significant worry. If they don’t tackle this adequately, they might as well dress the Kingpin in a clown costume and call it a day.
Major Daredevil season 3 and Echo spoilers ahead, along with some potential *Born Again* leaks.

How on Earth Is Wilson Fisk the Mayor Now?
We all appreciate a bit of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. Seeing him wreck guys with car doors is always entertaining. But let’s face it—his true power lies in his intellect, outmaneuvering everyone else, particularly Matt, Foggy, and Karen.
Now, *Born Again* is thrusting him into a classic comic storyline where he ascends to the position of mayor of New York City. Sounds intriguing, right? The issue is, the last time we saw him, he was being disgracefully imprisoned. So, how the hell did he manage this?

The final time we witnessed him, the entire city loathed him. There were protests against him. Sure, he nearly succeeded in his plan to frame Daredevil for a series of murders, but then that testimony from Special Agent Nadeem completely dismantled everything. His reputation was in tatters, and Matt ensured he was securely imprisoned.
So, what shifted? And why has Matt just stood by and let this absurdity unfold?
Fisk’s Resurgence Began In *Hawkeye* & *Echo*, Kind Of
Assuming *Hawkeye* and *Echo* maintain their canonicity (who really knows anymore with Marvel?), we can observe hints of Fisk attempting to reclaim his power.
In those series, he’s not in his typical position among corrupt law enforcement and politicians—he’s reverted to his old ways, presiding over the criminal underbelly of the city. Then, at the end of *Echo*, there’s some news chatter suggesting New York apparently *wants* someone like him in charge. Because that makes total sense.
But seriously, how did everyone completely forget the immense chaos he caused? And, once again—WHEN DID HE ESCAPE FROM PRISON?

Did The Blip Spring Him Free?
The only slightly logical explanation at this juncture? The blasted Blip.
With Thanos turning half the universe to dust, the world fell into utter disarray. Perhaps half the prison staff vanished, granting Fisk a simple escape route? We know from *Echo* that Fisk *wasn’t* snapped, so he had five years to cleverly slink his way back into power without facing any opposition.

It *could* work, but it would be incredibly lazy storytelling if they simply gloss over it without providing context. Fisk’s entire persona is built on his masterful scheming—if he did escape, I want to see how. Not just a throwaway remark in episode 1.
Would Matt Really Just Stand By and Let This Happen?
Even more perplexing is Murdock himself. He *almost killed* Fisk in season 3 but held himself back at the very last moment. And now I’m expected to believe that he’s suddenly okay with Fisk becoming mayor?
I’m hoping the trailer is just playing tricks, and there’s far more backstory left to unveil. Perhaps someone dear to Matt dies—rumours suggest that Foggy may be on the chopping block. That would be brutal enough to push Matt off course temporarily.
Regardless, I’m anticipating some *real* answers when *Born Again* premieres. If not, it’s going to feel like a significant slap in the face to fans of the original Netflix series.
*Daredevil: Born Again* premieres on Disney+ on 4 March 2025. If you’re in the mood for a serious binge, all three seasons of *Daredevil* are available for streaming there. You know, the *genuine* good ones.
