Huawei Mate XT 2? Yeah, Perhaps in 2026 If We’re Fortunate
Alright, here we go again—Huawei appears to be brewing a successor to their triple-screen folding behemoth, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate. According to some tech leak chatterbox named Fixedfocus, via Huawei Central, we could expect this device to be unveiled in early to mid-2026. So, in short, don’t hold your breath.
The World’s First Triple-Folding Phone Gets a Successor
The initial Huawei Mate XT has only just been launched internationally, and they’re already chattering about a sequel. This was the first smartphone to fold like a questionable origami creation, providing three screens to ogle at. Great idea, but how many people really desire a phone that folds more times than a flimsy deckchair?
What’s New? Supposedly, Not Much
So, what’s going to be different? Not a whole lot, by the sounds of it. The Mate XT 2 (or whatever absurd title they settle on) will allegedly feature an enhanced camera, a more powerful Kirin 5G chip, and an upgraded display. Wow. Truly groundbreaking, that. Next, they’ll have us convinced it will brew a cup of tea for you.
The Staggering Price
The original Mate XT cost buyers a staggering €3,499. Yes, you read that correctly. Three and a half grand for a phone. For that price, I’d expect it to handle my taxes and walk the dog. No information yet on whether the follow-up will come in cheaper or deliver an even harsher financial blow, but let’s face it—Huawei isn’t renowned for budget-friendly pricing.
Samsung and Tecno Attempting to Join the Frenzy
If you’re seeking alternatives (or simply want a chuckle at these absurd folding phones), Samsung is also crafting a triple-screen foldable that could be released as soon as this summer. No doubt they’ll promote it as a monumental innovation.
Then there’s Tecno’s Phantom Ultimate 2, which made an appearance at MWC 2025. Supposedly, it folds down to a slim 11mm when closed, which, to be fair, is quite commendable. But at this stage, do we genuinely need more companies hurling folding phones at us like they’re out of style?
Summary: The Same Fancy Napkin, Just Folded a Bit Differently
Look, if you’re eager for a phone that contorts into various shapes like a gymnast, then sure, keep an eye on Huawei’s Mate XT 2. But for the rest of us regular folks, it seems like just another ridiculously priced gadget that nobody actually requested.
As for me, I’ll stick with a phone that, you know… functions like a phone, and doesn’t necessitate an engineering degree to fold up properly.
