Reet then, hold on tight pet – one of the top shows to hit the telly in ages is making its return! That’s right, Race Across the World is getting its passport ready and diving back into adventure. If you’re after some globetrotting fun without apps, Google Maps, or even a sniff of Deliveroo, keep on reading.
The 2024 celebrity edition saw our lot racing from the Amazon in Brazil all the way to the Andes in Chile – and earlier in the year, the main series zoomed from Japan to Indonesia like it stole from them. Absolutely stunning to watch, and sure kicks off the wanderlust, even if your idea of hardship is spotty Wi-Fi.
Anyways, here’s what we know so far about the next instalment of the BBC’s travel antics. Remember, if you can cope with the truth sprinkled with a bit of Geordie charm, stick with GadgetLad.co.uk.
Is Race Across the World returning for Season 5? Aye, pet – it is!
Great news for all you couch explorers – the BBC has given another series the green light. Applications opened earlier this year, but unless you’ve got a time machine or a DeLorean, you’ve missed your chance for this one.
Applications for Season 6 are now live, so if you’ve got the guts, determination, and maybe a grasp of bus schedules, give it a shot. Series 6 is set to arrive in 2026, assuming the world hasn’t come to an end by then.

When’s Season 5 landing then?
According to some TV detectives at TV Zone, we’re eyeing April 2025. The trailer’s already circulating and hinting that it’s “coming soon” – which, much like your dad claiming he’ll mend the boiler, means nothing definite.
Typically, they prefer to drop these gems in spring when everyone’s a bit broke post-Christmas and craving an escape. As soon as GadgetLad learns more, I’ll update faster than a dodgy VPN in Laos.
Got a trailer to gawk at?
Yep, there’s a teaser out. It’s all moody tunes and sweeping drone footage, the standard excitement. Production values are top-notch, I’ll give them that. Here’s your fix:
Where’s this crew heading off to this time?
If the internet detectives on Reddit are to be trusted (and let’s face it, they’ve got not much else to do), we’re looking at Nepal, India, and China. Sounds exciting. Likely a few dodgy bus rides and a fair amount of boiled rice thrown in.
Here’s the route history for the fans among you:
- Series 1: London to Marina Bay – through Greece, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, China, Cambodia, Singapore
- Series 2: Mexico City to Ushuaia – via Honduras, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Brazil
- Series 3: Vancouver to Newfoundland – all over Canada, proper chill vibes (literally)
- Celebrity Series 1: Marrakesh to Tromsø – showcasing Portugal, France, Switzerland, Bosnia, Germany, Norway
- Series 4: Sapporo to Gili Meno – grand Asia tour: Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia
- Celebrity Series 2: Belém to Frutillar – Brazil, Argentina, Chile
Honestly, it’s like a Ryanair fever dream, but with less Wi-Fi and more disputes over tuk-tuk fares.
Who took the crown in Celebrity Series 2?
Major spoiler alert, so jog on if you haven’t seen it yet.
Even though Jeff and Freddy ended up wealthy (must’ve filched it from behind a jungle bush), it was Scott and Sam who clinched the victory. Took some wild risks and reached the final checkpoint first. Kola and Mary Ellen were close behind, but the others got caught out by local transport – probably gambled on the wrong bus again, poor souls.

Summary: “Pack Yer Bags, It’s Back Again”
In short: Season 5 of Race Across the World is confirmed, filming’s wrapped, trailer’s out, and we’re looking at an April 2025 release. New continent, new chaos, same well-worn backpacks. If you enjoy watching posh folks weep on sleeper trains or couples nearly brawl over map directions, you’re in for another treat.
Until then, I’ll be saving for my own RTW trip… or just continuing to grumble about Apple dongles from the comfort of my council estate flat. Either way, keep checking back here at GadgetLad.co.uk for more telly gossip and tech banter. Gan canny!
