Texan Trials: Target or Just Trouble?

Picture my astonishment when I discovered that a gentleman in Texas took a shot at a darn cable with his firearm. Yes, you heard it correctly. Rather than aiming at conventional targets, he concluded that the best practice involved shooting at internet lines. I suppose he fancied himself in some Western flick. The lady up north might have preferred a pair of shears.

Internet Outage in the Lone Star Region

It appears that this sharpshooter succeeded in knocking out an entire fiber line from Spectrum, leaving a bunch of Texans wandering around questioning, “Where did my Wi-Fi disappear to?” It’s akin to a technological disaster. You’ve got to commend them; everything is done on a larger scale in Texas, including their blunders.

There’s Precedent

This isn’t the first instance where gunfire has transformed internet cables into perforated messes. Spectrum’s lines have been dodging bullets for quite some time now. You’d think they might have armored those cables by this point, wouldn’t you? Perhaps they should look into some kevlar or similar. Surely that would be less cumbersome than handling frustrated Texans eager to shoot the next object that goes offline.

GadgetLad’s Perspective

Now, I can’t speak for you, but where I hail from, we typically resolve issues with a bit of duct tape and a hammer, not a bullet. However, I suppose the fellow wanted to make a statement—quite literally. I must say, the next time my connection drops, I’m opting for a cup of tea, not a revolver.

What’s the Remedy?

I’d suggest the answer is straightforward: less shooting, more deliberation. Perhaps we could all use a bit of relaxation and enjoy a drink instead of raising a firearm. Indeed, it’s that uncomplicated.

And it’s not the first occasion gunfire has disrupted Spectrum’s lines

A stray round impacted a Spectrum fiber line on Friday, disconnecting an unspecified number of Texans.
