What’s New with the Google Home Speaker?
Google initially hinted at its soon-to-be-released Home Speaker during its Made by Google event last summer, but since then, it has merely confirmed that the device is anticipated to launch in “spring 2026”.
With spring nearly coming to a close, doubts were beginning to arise regarding the arrival of the Gemini AI-enabled product. After all, it’s been six long years since the last device was launched – the bulky Nest Audio.
The Buzz Around It
However, the uncertainty surrounding its debut appears to have been cleared up – provided we can believe a product listing on Best Buy’s Canadian website.
Information Uncovered
Per the Best Buy listing, the speaker is scheduled for release on 25 June, just a little over three weeks from now.
Appearance & Variants
The design has seen some changes, but you can still expect a quite recognizable fabric-covered globe. It will be offered in four color variants – Jade, Berry, Porcelain, and Hazel – while customers located outside the US will be restricted to the latter two. In essence, the dull off-white and black versions.
Curiously, the Best Buy listing only mentions these two colors, suggesting that the other variants may be introduced at a later date.
Specifications & Costs
It will also incorporate a light ring at the bottom, which provides “expressive visual feedback of what Gemini is doing at any given moment,” according to Google.
Additionally, say farewell to the previous model’s Nest branding. This is a Google device, tailored, as you would expect, for enhanced conversational interactions with Gemini AI.
The Google Home Speaker is set to retail for £99 in the UK and $99 in the US. The price according to Best Buy is $139.99 CAD.
Subscription Needs
However, there’s a catch. To fully experience everything that Gemini has in store, a subscription will be required. In the meantime, learn all about the forthcoming device in our Google Home Speaker overview.
