Samsung: Months of Nothing to a Look-at-Me Device! – GadgetLad

A Grumpy Story of Tech Woes

Our pal Richard Speed faced a real nightmare with his Windows 11 machine the other day. Seven hours, poor lad! But I’d wager a pint that my ordeal with the Samsung Galaxy A33 Android smartphone from 2022 beats it hands down. This little device has been a reliable workhorse, but as quick as a tortoise on a chilled Sunday. I spotted an excellent deal on a high-end phone and relegated the A33 to the old Basket Full Of Tech I Should Probably Have Discarded But Held Onto Just In Case—it now resides in my office, a snug corner that’s warm and dry yet about as cheery as Newcastle in winter.

The Grand Moisture Enigma

Throughout GadetLad’s Australian winter escape, the cheeky A33 believed there was moisture in the USB-C port. Wouldn’t charge to save its life. Wireless charging? No way with budget options, mate. But when the climate shifted and spring soared to 30°C last weekend, I placed it in a warm, breezy location. Miraculously, the phantom moisture disappeared, and the phone powered up like it was enchanted.

An Update Odyssey

As soon as it received some charge, it prompted me for an OS update from April 2025. Not one to back away from a bit of hard work, I rose to the occasion. The problem was, it came with an added round of six more updates, each demanding manual approval for download and installation. The A33, bless it, quickly stumbled over itself with concurrent updates and begged for reboots like an elderly gentleman in need of a snooze. Every five minutes, it was after my consent or a re-login.

The Agony of Advancement

The phone serves more as a backup for me, not deserving of urgent attention. It took two days of tinkering at mealtimes and bedtimes to get it operational – slow, old, but functional. Left me agreeing with our Richard that tech experts ought to refine their software to make it less update-hungry and streamline the entire process. It would be fantastic if Samsung combined all previous updates into one download, so you’re not having to pamper the device through endless interventions. A chat with their Smart Switch app to smooth out the transitions wouldn’t hurt either.

Summary: This Old Device Isn’t Done Yet

So there it is – a narrative of tech challenges and struggles. Samsung, take heed. Old devices may refuse to fade away, but they certainly love to test our patience, right?
