Google has officially released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 during their Google I/O event, and it’s not solely about fixing bugs, my friend. They’ve added some fresh UI components as well.
The complete version of Android 17 is expected to arrive shortly, but Google has been hard at work on these beta updates for Android 17 QPR1, which will jumpstart the first significant Pixel Drop update in September.
This new beta requires you to join the Android beta program, but once you’re signed up, it should function on any Pixel device from the reliable Google Pixel 6 to the fancy Google Pixel 10 series.
Here’s a glimpse of the key new features in Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3, thanks to the team at 9to5Google.
New animations
Google’s gone animation-happy with this latest Android 17 iteration. Double-tap that power button to open the camera and see the Camera UI pop up like it has something to show, clearing the ‘fog of war’ from the lock screen.
Additionally, there’s a ‘bouncy’ Quick Settings animation. Swipe it down and watch it spring back like a jack-in-the-box.
More blur
Alongside these new animations, Google has opted to enhance the background blur in the Android 17 beta even further. It seems blur is the key term in Android 17’s visual design.

New media player interface
Google has introduced a stylish new user interface for the media player controls within the Quick Settings menu. It’s now card-style, allowing effortless switching between media apps with a simple tap instead of a swipe.
New screen recording menu
The screen recording menu now automatically defaults to the last used app, and they’ve included convenient toggles for recording device audio and the microphone. No more fussing around!

Bug fixes
Google has been diligently addressing bugs in the current Android 17 beta. They’ve fixed Wi-Fi disconnections, resolved audio distortion during media playback, eliminated UI glitches while in full-screen mode, and prevented Home Screen widgets from mysteriously disappearing, among other things.
For all the bug-hunters out there, here’s Google’s complete release notes if you’re interested in a detailed examination of all the fixes in this latest Android 17 beta.

Summary: The Android 17 Wiggle Jiggle
Check out Android 17, finally finding its rhythm with its fresh animations and a blurrier perspective than my glasses on a rainy afternoon. Google’s enjoying the fun, tweaking the interface and fixing those annoying bugs. Keep pace, or you’ll get lost in the wobble!
