Android Glitch Sends Unreliable Messages, Users in a Tizzy

Google has acknowledged there’s a significant security issue on all Android devices running Android 16. This bug allows the Gemini AI to send out SMS and WhatsApp messages without your approval, even before the phone is unlocked!

The issue stems from Gemini being embedded directly into the lock screen, granting it unrestricted access. No PIN is required. Frustrating and concerning, as it permits unauthorized individuals to snoop on your messages or sensitive information that should remain confidential.

The folks at The Register report that all Android devices are experiencing some turmoil, not just Google’s own Pixels. However, to exploit the bug, someone would need physical access to your device – like if it’s been stolen or misplaced.

How to Safeguard Your Device from this Android Nonsense

To prevent this shady situation, you can halt Gemini’s activities on the lock screen.

Disable Gemini on Lock Screen

Launch the Gemini app on your Android device, tap your profile picture, then select Settings. Locate ‘Gemini on lock screen’ and toggle off ‘Use Gemini without unlocking’ or ‘Reply on lock screen’.

Restrict Gemini’s Interference

You can also minimize Gemini’s involvement with your applications. Navigate to the ‘Gemini App Activity’ section, then select ‘Extensions’. Uncheck apps you prefer Gemini to avoid (such as Google Messages, email, or WhatsApp).

A spokesperson from Google informed The Register that they’ve already developed a patch, which will be rolled out through an Android update by the end of the week. So ensure your Android is up to date to receive these corrections swiftly.

Summary: Acknowledge it, Android’s Acting Up Again

Who would have imagined? Your Android has encountered a mischievous bug. Don’t wait for it to start leaking your secrets. Adjust those settings and be on the lookout for that update. Stay composed, carry on, and perhaps get a Jack Russell like mine to safeguard your phone in the future!
