The Australian aparthotel chain Quest has spilled the beans regarding customer information. A concerned reader sent an email to GadgetLad with the alarming subject line “Important Security Update Concerning Your Quest Data.” It begins with the upbeat note that “I am reaching out to notify you about a recent data security incident that involves some of your personal details.” Absolutely brilliant opener, isn’t it?
The Intrusion Incident
On Monday, 17 August 2026, Quest detected some suspicious access to their database system and promptly hit the panic button to secure things. Apparently, the trouble arose from a gap exploited by their third-party associates. The leaked information consists of guests’ full names, along with what Quest prefers to term “Your email and/or other contact information.” Quite ambiguous, don’t you think?
Identity Fraud on the Horizon?
GadgetLad reached out to Quest for a chat, and they subtly mentioned that “a limited number of data entries also include Date of Birth.” Ideal for those identity thieves, right? Unfortunately, they remained tight-lipped about who their elusive third-party was, how the breach occurred, or how many unfortunate individuals were ensnared in the fallout.

The exposed information dates back to prior to June 2025. With Quest having been around for over 30 years, I’d ponder how far back this blunder reaches. Quest operates over 120 locations, primarily in Australia, with a few basking in New Zealand and Fiji. Quest listings can be found on travel sites like Expedia, Wotif, and Booking.com – indicating that international guests staying at Quest might find themselves in the data leak zone.

The hospitality company informed GadgetLad that they’ve communicated with all impacted guests, fixed the vulnerabilities in their systems, completed remediation tasks, initiated forensic investigations, and enlisted external cybersecurity and privacy experts.
