Patch Tuesday Became Patch Oopsie

Patch Tuesday arrived and departed, but some unfortunate individuals utilizing Dell machines found themselves in quite a predicament, all due to Microsoft. They had to hit the pause button on the update after Dell flagged several issues. Yesterday marked that part of the month again for Microsoft’s security updates on Windows. This one has been somewhat of a monster, shattering records with the volume of CVEs patched, some of which are as critical as your mom after you’ve shattered her beloved vase.
Dell Devices Hit a Snag

Time to apply those patches, right? Well, not if you’re on one of those unfortunate Dell Intel devices affected by the update troubles. Microsoft noted it impacted “some Dell devices with Intel processors,” but they’re being as tight-lipped as a covert operative regarding which models are involved. Over here at GadgetLad, we reached out to Microsoft and Dell for the roster of the unlucky devices, but they’re remaining silent.
On their update page, Microsoft acknowledged, “This update might not be accessible for a limited selection of Dell devices with Intel processors due to a compatibility issue identified by Dell that may lead to unforeseen shutdowns, poor performance, elevated heat, and battery drain.” What a charm, right?
Awaiting the Solution
The brains at Microsoft and Dell are hurriedly working to resolve this before your laptop turns into a glorified paperweight. They’re aiming for a fix for the impacted devices “in the coming days.” Until then, the update is “temporarily unavailable,” just like my tolerance for all this nonsense.
Microsoft’s Swift Reply, Kind Of
Considering the unprecedented number of CVEs in this update, the delay is quite frustrating, especially since Microsoft was touting last week about getting patches out quickly due to AI detecting vulnerabilities faster than a dog chasing a pie on the sidewalk. Microsoft did act promptly to suspend the update for these faulty devices, but letting it progress this far is akin to allowing a child to play with matches and then questioning why the shed is on fire.
The Hazard of Trusting Major Brands
Dell isn’t just any player in the hardware sphere. Somewhere within Microsoft’s Redmond headquarters, there’s likely an engineer somberly resetting the “Days since we broke something” counter back to zero, reminiscing about the bygone days when they could reach double or even triple digits without a hitch.
Oopsie Daisy: The Recap Tag
Well, folks, once again, we find ourselves shaking our heads at the disorder triggered by an update gone awry. Let’s hope Microsoft and Dell rectify this situation before we’re all compelled to dust off the old abacus for our calculations. Until the next time, keep your devices current—just perhaps not today if you’re using a Dell!
