The Amazon Prime Video series *Good Omens* – inspired by the fantasy novel – is back for another round of heavenly mischief, but things are once again going off the rails. Big surprise, right?
The inaugural season stayed true to the original book, which was spot-on, in my opinion. But season 2? They’ve strayed from the source material, plunging into some unpredictable territory. Still, fans and reviewers seem to be enjoying the detour, as they’ve explored the intricate dynamics between Heaven, Hell, and their divine disputes. The cliffhanger finale of season 2 has, of course, left everyone wondering: “When is season 3 actually dropping?”
Well, you’ve arrived at the right spot. Stick around, and I’ll fill you in on what we know. And if you’re into other fantasy series, check out my insights on *The Witcher* and *Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power* over at [GadgetLad](https://www.gadgetlad.co.uk). Now, let’s dive in.
When could Good Omens Season 3 arrive? Likely later than you wish
So, the buzz (actually, it’s from *The Hollywood Reporter*) is that *Good Omens* season 3 received the green light on 14 December 2023. Fantastic news! Filming is expected to commence in Scotland, but there’s been a hiccup due to the Writers Guild of America strike. Neil Gaiman didn’t resume writing until September 2023.
Now, if you’re counting, it took two years from when season 2 started filming for it to hit our screens. And we had a four-year gap between seasons 1 and 2, but to be fair, Covid was a factor there. Currently, *Radio Times* has indicated that filming for season 3 *might* kick off in January 2025. But—there’s always a but—*Deadline* reported that production was halted as of September 2024. Amazon hasn’t said anything about it yet, which is reassuring. Not really.
Oh, and just to complicate matters, Gaiman is facing sexual assault allegations from four women, which he has denied. Amazon *might* take measures regarding that, which, surprise, could further delay things. So, when can we realistically anticipate season 3? Perhaps 2026, if you take Gaiman’s word on [Tumblr](https://neil-gaiman.tumblr.com/post/724098700328255488/do-you-imagine-if-a-season-3-were-to-be-produced). If I were a betting man, I’d suggest getting comfortable. It could be quite the wait.
At least it’s confirmed that season 3 will be the last, so we can expect some level of closure. Hopefully.

Good Omens 3 cast and crew – who’s returning?
Let’s be honest for a moment, if it doesn’t feature Michael Sheen and David Tennant, then it’s not *Good Omens*. So, you can bet your bottom dollar they’ll be reprising their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley. They simply must! Anything less would be foolish.
As for the rest of the celestial crew, we don’t have confirmation yet, but here’s who we’re likely to see again:
- Quelin Sepulveda as Muriel
- Derek Jacobi as Metatron
- Jon Hamm as Gabriel
- Miranda Richardson as Shax
- Gloria Obianyo as Uriel
- Nina Sosanya as Nina
- Maggie Service as Maggie
- Liz Carr as Saraqael
- Shelley Conn as Beelzebub
- Reece Shearsmith as Furfur
Of course, behind the scenes, we’re anticipating Gaiman to head the writing, assuming no additional delays or legal troubles arise.
Good Omens season 3 plot – what’s next for Aziraphale and Crowley?
**Major spoilers for season 2 ahead, mate.** You’ve been warned.
Season 2 showcased a rather special connection between our angel and demon. But, as often happens in television, everything went awry. Enter Metatron, the divine office manager who complicated matters. The finale saw poor Crowley poised to bare his soul to Aziraphale, but Metatron had other ideas—a new job as Supreme Archangel, with a tempting offer for Crowley to join Team Heaven.
Crowley? Yeah, no thanks. He’s not interested at all. Aziraphale is all starry-eyed at the prospect of running Heaven in his own style. Cue the heartbreak: Crowley plants a goodbye kiss on Aziraphale (finally!) and walks away, utterly devastated. Meanwhile, Aziraphale ascends to Heaven with Metatron, who begins briefing him about something dubbed ‘The Second Coming’—no biggie, right?
Roll credits, and we’re left staring at close-ups of two fractured hearts. Cheers for that.
Season 3 picks up right here. Expect Aziraphale to immerse himself in his new role as Supreme Archangel, gearing up Heaven for the Second Coming. If you’re not familiar, that’s when Jesus returns to Earth to judge the living and the dead. Sounds uplifting, doesn’t it?
Crowley’s role in this? That remains uncertain, but one thing is sure: they will cross paths again. Whether they reconcile or not is anyone’s guess. Oh, and in case you missed it, David Tennant hinted at more kisses in season 3 during the BAFTA TV Awards. So, that’s something to anticipate!
Season one revolved around averting Armageddon, foreboding prophecies, and the End of the World. Season two was tender and gentle, though it didn’t conclude as happily as our beloved Angel and Demon would have preferred. Now, in season three, we’re back to confronting the End of the World. The plans for Armageddon are going awry. Only Crowley and Aziraphale collaborating can resolve it. But they’re currently not on speaking terms.

What’s the “Coffee Theory” all about?
Alright, here’s where the fan theories get wild. Some believe Metatron engaged in some shady dealings with the coffee he gave Aziraphale—a massive oat milk latte with almond syrup, if you want specifics—just before offering him the big gig in Heaven.
Fans suspect Metatron might have drugged or manipulated Aziraphale with that latte. Some even claim to have heard the sound of a miracle being performed during the coffee hand-off. Overthinking much? Perhaps. But given Aziraphale’s loyalty to tea, it does seem a bit strange, doesn’t it?
Then, there’s Nina’s coffee shop name: *Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death*. A bit on the nose, right? Could indicate that our angelic friend is under some sort of mind control. In other series (*Supernatural*, *His Dark Materials*), Metatron’s portrayed as quite the villain, so it wouldn’t be too shocking if he’s engaging in some dubious actions here as well.
Of course, this is merely speculation. Aziraphale could genuinely believe that becoming Supreme Archangel is the best method to fix Heaven. Whatever the outcome, we won’t know until season 3 is released.

Summary
### “Season 3? Maybe See You in 2026, If We’re Lucky…”
So, in true *Good Omens* style, we’re left hanging by a thread. Expect season 3 to debut around 2026 unless someone performs a miracle. Neil Gaiman’s tangled up in some legal issues, production keeps hitting snags, and Metatron might’ve slipped something sketchy into Aziraphale’s fancy oat milk latte. All in all, it’s just another typical day in the celestial realm of *Good Omens*. Plan accordingly, and don’t hold your breath.
