- Google’s mid-tier device for 2027
- Anticipated launch in the spring
- Price hike is nearly certain
- May utilize the Tensor G6 processor
- Potential for a revamped selfie camera and improved display brightness
In 2026, the persistent RAM shortage is undoubtedly impacting mid-tier smartphones as producers show less enthusiasm for introducing significant upgrades to avoid raising consumer prices. Nevertheless, even considering this situation, Google continues to deliver some of the most straightforward mid-range phones to endorse, and we look forward to seeing this trend persist with the Pixel 11a.
If you’ve reviewed our Pixel 10a review and the numerous conversations we’ve had about this phone since its release, it’s clear that we were somewhat underwhelmed by the overall device. It’s a robust phone in its own right, but compared to the excellent Pixel 9a, it fails to offer enough to validate its place.
The time we spent evaluating the Pixel 10a is precisely why we now recommend the 9a instead as one of the top mid-range smartphones on the market, particularly since it has received a price reduction.
With the flagship-level Pixel 11 devices now available, our focus is shifting towards Google’s upcoming mid-tier smartphone, and if the initial rumors hold any truth, this might be the substantial upgrade we’ve been looking for.
When will the Pixel 11a launch?
- Expected launch in the spring of 2027
- The device might be available a few weeks after
It will still be some time before we find the Pixel 11a in stores, but if it follows the trendset by earlier models, its unveiling could take place in spring 2027.
For reference, here are the launch timelines for prior devices in the Pixel A-series:
- Pixel 10a – March 2026
- Pixel 9a – April 2025
- Pixel 8a – May 2024
- Pixel 7a – May 2023
What will the Pixel 11a cost?
- Reveal expected in August 2027
- General release should follow a few weeks later
Here’s the twist that could see the Pixel 11a straying from an established pattern with Google’s mid-range devices. For the last three iterations, Google’s A-series phones have launched with a base price of £499/$499.
Thanks to reusing the previous-generation Tensor G4 chipset, the Pixel 10a managed to maintain its price without increase, yet it’s questionable whether Google can achieve something similar in 2027.
The company has already raised its prices for the standard Pixel 11 models, all of which are pricier than those in the Pixel 10 series, and if recent industry reports are to be believed, this situation may only deteriorate in 2027.
Google is unlikely to forsake the A-series’ mid-range standing, but considering that Apple has recently raised the price of the competing iPhone 17e by £100/$100, we would be astonished if Google didn’t do something comparable, which could mean the Pixel 11a starting around £599/$599. Naturally, this is pure speculation at this point, but we will refresh this section once we gather additional information.
Here are the prices for past Pixel A-series devices:
- Pixel 10a – £499/$499
- Pixel 9a – £499/$499
- Pixel 8a – £499/$499
- Pixel 7a – £449/$499
What specifications and features will the Pixel 11a include?
- Updated Tensor G6 chip
- Brighter display compared to its predecessors
- An enhanced selfie camera
- Completely new color options
No more compromises on the chipset
A major drawback of the Pixel 10a was its use of the exact same chipset as in the earlier Pixel 9a, leading to nearly identical performance between the two devices. On the surface, it seems this was a cost-cutting tactic to maintain the existing price point for the 10a, but if the rumors are accurate, Google is not expected to follow the same strategy for the Pixel 11a.

Current indications suggest that the Pixel 11a will incorporate the same Tensor G6 chip as the other Pixel 11 devices, providing a performance leap of two generations compared to the Pixel 10a.
Considering how aggressively Google is promoting new AI functionalities like Gemini Intelligence, which can perform specific tasks on your behalf, all this may render the Pixel 11a one of the most proficient devices for AI features. It’s rumored that the chip will be complemented by 8GB RAM and a new MediaTek M90 modem.

An enhanced front camera
Take this with a grain of salt as there’s scant information on this particular leak, but it’s rumored that the Pixel 11a may receive an upgrade to its selfie camera, which, in our opinion, is overdue.

The last improvement in this area occurred when the Pixel 7a upgraded to a 13Mp front-facing f/2.2 selfie camera, but that lens has remained largely unchanged since. To its credit, the Pixel 10a captures decent selfies due to Google’s computational photography, yet more detail would be a welcome addition. Perhaps an enhancement to 18Mp to align with the iPhone 17 would be a nice improvement.

An even more radiant display
Among the few upgrades introduced by the Pixel 10a, one notable feature was a screen capable of reaching a peak brightness of 3000 nits. It seems Google might look to build on this feature, potentially elevating that peak to an impressive 3350 nits.

We will have to await confirmation on whether this rumor is accurate, but a brighter screen is always advantageous as it enhances usability outdoors.

A refreshed palette of colors
This is an aspect we are particularly eager about, as the new color options in the Pixel 11 lineup are among the most visually appealing of any Android device available in 2026. Based on current knowledge, the Pixel 11a may aim to emulate its more expensive counterparts with choices in black (Obsidian), green (Olive), purple (Frost), and silver (Fog).
