A Look at the Future with Fitbit
Last week, we caught our first glimpse of Fitbit’s forthcoming device without a screen, and while there’s much to be excited about, I’m more curious about the wearable that Garmin could unveil at any moment.
The Whoop Strap: A Strong Competitor
Although Garmin has been the leading brand for a long time with premium wearables aimed at serious athletes like triathletes and ultramarathon runners, the Whoop Strap has proven to be a fantastic alternative. With its absence of a screen or buttons, it simplifies the experience, focusing on health and recovery. That’s why professional athletes like LeBron James and Michael Phelps advocate for it.

Subscription Challenges
Although I appreciate the Whoop Strap (having worn it intermittently for about five years), the significant obstacle has been its subscription system. Garmin’s forthcoming Cirqa might revolutionize the scene by providing a one-time fee, making it a compelling option compared to Whoop’s recurring expenses.
A New Challenger for the Crown
While details on Garmin’s latest wearable are scarce, speculation suggests it will be the Garmin Cirqa. Garmin products are known for their exceptional durability, boasting a battery life that puts competitors to shame. Even my reliable Garmin Venu X1 runs for approximately 8 to 9 days on a single charge, unlike the disappointing one-day battery of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8.

The Benefit of Garmin Connect
Garmin Connect’s app will likely require minimal adjustments to incorporate the Cirqa. Similar to Whoop, it eliminates unnecessary features, presenting you with insights on how rested you are upon opening it. What I hope to see is Garmin clarifying what users can anticipate when utilizing Cirqa alongside their existing Garmin watch, contrasting with Samsung’s unclear Galaxy Ring launch.
So Where Is It?
The Garmin Cirqa was expected to debut in March, but it has yet to be seen. Perhaps Garmin delayed its launch after learning about Fitbit’s new offering. Fitbit holds a stronger position in the entry-level market than Whoop, prompting Garmin to possibly wait to see Fitbit’s strategy before unveiling theirs. We probably won’t have to wait much longer to discover what the Cirqa will bring, and I’m excited to learn more.

In the wearable tech competition, Garmin’s Cirqa could pose a serious challenge to Whoop, particularly if they remove the subscription structure. Stay tuned for the upcoming innovations in fitness technology, and let’s see who emerges victorious.
