Android 17 is a few months away from its complete launch, yet Google is already experimenting with its first significant update on Pixel devices.
The company has just introduced the initial beta version of Android 17 QPR1 – which represents the upcoming first quarterly platform release (or major update) for Android 17 several months following its initial release – for Pixel devices.
However, don’t get overly enthusiastic. Build number CP31.260403.005.A1, as it’s fondly referred to, doesn’t incorporate any major new features compared to previous beta versions of Android 17.
This update seems primarily focused on resolving pesky bugs and stabilizing issues from earlier versions.

What’s included in Android 17 QPR1 beta 1?
Google’s official changelog on the Android Developer site highlights four specific bugs that have been addressed, none of which are particularly exciting.
One pertains to a crash linked to a printer job, while another addresses an error message displaying in the Terminal app. There has been some disruption with distortion effects in VoIP applications, as well as direct audio output – both of which have reportedly been resolved.
As mentioned, it’s not particularly newsworthy. It’s expected we’ll begin to see more exciting new features in upcoming beta releases.
For the moment, anyone with a Google Pixel 6 or later can try out this minimal version of Android 17, assuming you’re enrolled in the Android Beta Program.
The rest of us can await (im)patiently for the complete version, with Android 17 anticipated to launch in June or July.
