HP 14 Inch Laptop Review: Lad, Is It Worth the Punt?
So, you fancy a new laptop, do ya? Let’s have a chinwag about this HP 14-inch wonder with the Intel N150 giving it a kick up the backside. Look, I’m not one for sugar-coating – this anti-glare, 1366×768 display ain’t exactly on par with the flashier FHD alternatives. It’s great if you wanna nick outside and avoid the sun blindsiding ya dead pixels, but don’t expect your jaw to hit the floor.
The Intel N150 processor under the hood is a bit like sticking a turbo on a Ford Fiesta, giving ya a neat 3.6GHz boost. If you’re after seamless multitasking, this critter’s 4-core dance does a decent jig with that 16GB of RAM. But, let’s not pretend it’s a Ferrari – it’s handling your spreadsheets and Netflix aplomb, but hardcore gaming? Not today, son!
Storage-wise, we’ve got a right mash-up – 128GB UFS with a 256GB Micro SD. Perfect for everyday storage, aye, but it’s a poor man’s IKEA storage cupboard compared to SSD glories. Faster than ya granny on a Monday morn, but let’s not give it a standing ovation.
Ports and connectivity are a bit no-nonsense, much like us Geordies. Two USB-As, one USB-C, HDMI 1.4b, an SD card reader, and the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 to keep the lot connected like a night at the Bigg Market. Got ya bases covered if ya Skype-in to work or need the earphones for the metro journey.
Now, this HP beast also comes with a fancy Microsoft Office license pinned in – all legit, none of your dodgy downloads here, mate! Good for professionals and students who fancy themselves a bargain. But let’s face it, if playing about in Photoshop is more your thing, maybe pop down for a cheeky gander at a Mac, or one of them fancy millions-of-colours displays.
So, who’s this bad boy for? Students and office workers after a good bash at productivity without the hefty price tag. Does the job, won’t blow your socks off, but hey – it won’t blow your bank account neither. There’s a bit of Geordie grit in this laptop’s bones, and for that, give it a nod. Just not the diamond, alright?
