Motorola’s Revitalized Presence
Gradually and subtly, Motorola is evolving into my preferred smartphone manufacturer, posing a significant challenge for Samsung and others.
The Lenovo-backed firm is no newcomer to the industry – quite the contrary, given its extensive background – yet it appears to be exuding a newfound confidence these days.
Motorola was traditionally recognized for its well-constructed, affordable devices. If you found yourself short on cash and in need of a mobile, the latest Moto G was your go-to option. It ruled our budget phone rankings for ages.
However, in recent years, Motorola has been altering its trajectory. While it continues to produce robust Moto G models, it is now also showcasing impressive offerings in the mid-range and flagship categories.
Motorola Taking the Lead
The Motorola Signature stands out as one of my top flagship devices of 2026 thus far, boasting a sleek and chic design without compromising on camera performance – all at a value that positions the iPhone Air and even the dated Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge in their rightful place.
Additionally, the Motorola Razr Fold builds on the Signature’s excellent foundation, presenting one of the most tactile and appealing book-style foldable smartphones to date. It may not be as slender as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but I certainly know which I would prefer as my daily device.
Motorola has chosen to steer clear of the imitation iPhone-esque designs that numerous competitors produce. Instead, it forges its own path, utilizing warm, nature-inspired materials, rounded edges, and inviting Pantone-approved hues.
In summary, Motorola smartphones possess a strong and unique character that many competitors simply lack. The company is experimenting with some eclectic accessories, wearables, and audio gadgets, even if some might not appeal to me here at GadgetLad.
Sticking Like Glue
Motorola seems poised to continue challenging rivals across various segments as well.
The Motorola Edge 70 Max is on the horizon, having appeared in the Wireless Power Consortium certification database. The WPC is the organization that sets new wireless charging benchmarks, so the appearance of a new phone here is essentially a quiet endorsement.
What’s really grabbing attention is the listing indicating that the Motorola Edge 70 Max will support Qi2 charging – and even the quicker 25W Qi 2.2 standard.
Magnetic wireless charging has long been a significant selling point for iPhones (MagSafe is akin to the Hoover of the smartphone universe today), but the Google Pixel 10 series has been the only one to catch on among mainstream Android users.
Samsung has overlooked (and quite possibly abandoned) Qi2 compatibility in its Galaxy S26 series, opting instead for a half-hearted Qi2 case approach, while Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor didn’t even make an attempt.
Motorola already showcases one of the broadest and most impressive smartphone lineups available. All signs indicate they will keep pushing limits as we approach 2027, which should be a cause for concern for the rest of the mostly stagnantMotorola Razr Fold
