What a squandered chance.
At Lenovo’s massive Tech World conference at CES 2026 (held in the Sphere, no less!), Motorola at last disclosed its highly anticipated first book-style foldable to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
The Motorola Razr Fold, as it’s predictably called, was officially launched alongside a new Signature flagship phone and several other gadgets. Well, kind of.
An unfinished narrative
In numerous aspects, this served merely as a preview of what’s ahead. Motorola did disclose some specifications, yet several of the most essential are still a mystery.
It’s confirmed that the device will feature two 120Hz OLED screens, with a 6.56-inch exterior display that expands to expose an 8.09-inch internal screen. Both will fully support Motorola’s newly introduced Pen Ultra stylus.
A five-camera setup incorporates a trio of 50Mp rear sensors – main, 3x periscope telephoto, and 122-degree ultrawide. Additionally, it will come in Pantone’s ‘Blackened Blue’ and ‘Lily White’ hues – think navy and off-white. Regardless of the model you select, that sizable camera bump surely won’t appeal to everyone.

Evleaks
And that’s pretty much it. The Razr Fold will operate on Android 16 (surprise) with ambiguous “multitasking improvements,” “adaptive interfaces,” and “flexible layouts,” whatever that entails. However, a vital detail – the duration of software support – is still unannounced.
We also lack knowledge regarding the size of the battery, charging speed, and whether it possesses a formal IP rating for water and dust resistance. It’s also uncertain how slim and light (read, heavy) it will be, but given Motorola’s vague claims, it’s improbable it will surpass the Honor Magic V5 in this aspect.
Perhaps the most significant gap thus far is which processor it will utilize, a critical factor for its success. The Signature operates with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 if that’s any hint, and Qualcomm’s CEO was part of the event.
The cost will determine its fate
Provided there are no dealbreakers concerning the hardware or software, the Razr Fold’s success hinges on its pricing strategy. Nothing official has been disclosed yet, but if well-known leaker Evan Blass’s insights are accurate, the news is positive.
Evleaks, as he’s recognized online, posted on X (formerly Twitter) prior to the event, indicating that the Razr Fold could launch at an appealing price point:
That’s still quite a sum, yet it’s noticeably cheaper than Motorola’s competitors in the book-style foldable phone market. The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold starts at $1,799, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 begins at $1,999.
It might be a stretch to say that it’ll be the driving force for book-style foldables to become mainstream, but as many leading non-folding phones are only slightly less expensive, it presents the chance for a foldable to be the preferred choice for more consumers – particularly if there are appealing contract offers.
If the Motorola Razr Fold manages to provide a thoroughly compelling foldable experience for $1,500, it could compel rivals to make their forthcoming devices more affordable, which is advantageous for buyers.
Yet, we will have to wait a while to discover this, with the Razr Fold set to launch sometime during the summer of 2026. The next opportunity to gain further insight will come during MWC 2026, scheduled for March in Barcelona.
Overview
Cliffhanger or Flop?
Motorola’s Razr Fold may finally hit the mark or merely stumble over its own feet. Regardless, I’ll have my popcorn ready!
