Areet, me mates. Do ya remember that cheeky, striped-suited spirit from the 80s? Y’kna, the one with the dodgy grin and a gob full of cheesy catchphrases? Well, brace yerselves ’cause Beetlejuice is back – and he’s packin’ his usual trouble!
For them who’ve been hidin’ under a rock, Beetlejuice was a classic from ’88, crafted by Tim Burton. It’s a comedy horror yarn that tails a couple – Barbara (played by Geena Davis) and Adam (played by Alec Baldwin). Problem is, they’ve bit the dust right after movin’ into their dream home. Now stuck as ghosts in their own pad, they’re not exactly over the moon when the new Deetz family move in. So, what’s the plan? They bring in a bio-exorcist – Betelgeuse, played by Michael Keaton himself, to scare the living daylights outta the Deetz family.
But, surprise, surprise! Things take a turn for the worse as our “hero” Betelgeuse goes completely off the rails, causing more havoc than a Saturday night out in Newcastle, even trying to worm his way into a marriage with teenage Lydia Deetz (played by Winona Ryder). But, as always, they figure out the supernatural mess by the time it wraps up.
Now, 36 years later, Tim Burton’s dragging the cheeky lad back for Beetlejuice 2 (a.k.a. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – I ain’t pullin’ your leg). Michael Keaton’s back at it, and Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz has grown up, now with a daughter of her own – teenage Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega. Will the sequel be as mint as the first? Time (and a trip to the cinema) will tell!
