A few months back, you purchased your Oral-B iO, and now, while it appears to be functioning properly, the center of the Mode button has begun glowing yellow after use. (Oral-B denotes it as yellow light, although you might perceive it as orange or amber.)
Here’s what that indicates and how to remedy it.

Abundant Feedback
A benefit of acquiring an iO is the extensive feedback the brush provides. Each model includes quadrant alerts to signal when to transition to the next section of your mouth during brushing, a two-minute overall brushing timer, and a pressure sensor that shines red if you apply too much force and green when the pressure is optimal. (Higher-end models may even furnish you with detailed brushing advice and insights.)
Every brush will also alert you when the battery is low. This is indicated by a red glow on the power button.
Yellow Light – What’s Next?
What does it signify when the mode button – situated below the power button – illuminates yellow? Here’s how it appears on the Oral-B iO Series 4 that I utilize daily.

What does a yellow light on my Oral-B iO brush indicate?
The yellow light is merely another form of feedback your iO delivers. It signifies that it’s time to replace your toothbrush head, as you’ve been using it for approximately three months.
Worn-out brush heads begin to diminish in their effectiveness. They won’t clean your teeth as effectively as a new brush head. You can also recognize the need for a replacement when the bristles start to spread or, depending on the brush head type, when the bristle color begins to fade.
How can I disable the yellow light on my Oral-B iO?
After you have changed the brush head, you’ll need to reset the brush reminder. To do this on the handle, press and hold the mode button for two seconds. The brush will vibrate in acknowledgment.
App-Connected Stylish Reset
For those with an app-connected iO, you can also set a reminder via the app. To achieve this, open the Oral-B app and select “Devices” from the bottom menu. This will direct you to the app page that reveals brush head details. Ensure your iO is on hand and powered on to sync it with the app.

The app will inquire about when you started using the new brush head and which type it is. After completing this process, you’re set. You’ll receive another reminder in three months.

Summary: Illuminate Your Life, Or Not
If your Oral-B iO is illuminating like a dance floor, it simply needs some care. Change that head and perform a reset; your brilliant whites will appreciate it. Or beautify it with the app and monitor your toothbrush’s lifespan better than I can recall my own. All done!
