Aye, the saga of those bloody Peaky Blinders isn’t finished yet, not by a long stretch. Thanks to Netflix, the Birmingham gangsters are getting another shot at fame with a feature film. That’s right – Tommy Shelby and his crew are back for another round of mischief, and let me tell you, it’s going to be one wild adventure.
The series was a proper classic, wasn’t it? Developed by the Beeb (BBC for those who aren’t aware), it transformed Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby into a television icon. The man became the face of every aspiring tough guy, with his tailored suits, flat caps, and the type of attitude that could terrify a pit bull. But it wasn’t just about Tommy, was it? Nah, the show was filled with unforgettable characters like Aunt Polly (Helen McCrory), Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson), and the quirky Alfie Solomon (Tom Hardy).
And didn’t the show spark a revival for 1920s fashion? Suddenly every bloke and his mates were donning flat caps and suits as if they were born to wear them. Blame Tommy if your wardrobe has morphed into a Savile Row homage.
So, Netflix spied the pot of gold and decided to cash in with a film. Good news for us, eh?
What’s the Title of the Peaky Blinders Movie?
Uh, we don’t know yet. No title has been disclosed, but I’m certain Netflix will figure it out and keep us posted soon enough. Until then, we’ll keep referring to it as the Peaky Blinders movie, shall we?
When’s the Peaky Blinders Movie Coming Out?
No firm release date as of now, mate. The Beeb reports that filming is set to begin in September 2024 in Birmingham, right in the heart of Digbeth. Considering how long it takes to film, edit, and everything in between, I suspect we won’t see it until early 2026. So, just be patient – it’ll be worth it.
And here’s a warning – spoilers for the Peaky Blinders series are coming up. Don’t grumble if I spoil the ending for you.
What’s the Plot of the Peaky Blinders Movie?
So, what’s it all about then? Well, it’s going to be a direct sequel to the series, but the plot’s more secretive than the Colonel’s special recipe. The series wrapped up in 2022, and the ending left us all perplexed, didn’t it? Tommy’s been through the wringer – a scuffle with the IRA, eliminating Michael, and then discovering he’s got a tumor in his lungs. Desperate, Tommy contemplates ending it all, but it’s the specter of his daughter Ruby that pulls him back from the edge. It turns out, the tumor was a load of rubbish.
The last we saw, Tommy was galloping into the countryside on a white horse like some blooming cowboy, leaving his flaming wagon behind. What’s next? Is he finished with the gangster life or just taking a break? Will the film pick up right after this, or will we leap forward a few years? Either way, you can bet your last quid Tommy’s not through with his dodgy dealings.
Who’s in the Peaky Blinders Movie?
Netflix isn’t messing around with the cast. They’ve assembled some big names for this film. Naturally, Cillian Murphy’s reprising his role as Tommy Shelby – the man, the myth, the legend. He’s joined by Rebecca Ferguson, who you might recognize from Dune 2. No idea who she’s portraying yet, but that’s standard for this film, eh?
Barry Keoghan’s getting in on the act, too. After turning heads in The Banshees of Inisherin and Saltburn, he’s joining the Peaky Blinders. Don’t know what role he’s landed either, mind. It’s all top secret.
As for the rest of the original cast, we’re likely to see:
- Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby Jr.
- Harry Kirton as Finn Shelby.
- Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne.
- Natasha O’Keeffe as Lizzie Shelby.
- Conrad Khan as Duke Shelby, Tommy’s dodgy illegitimate son.
- Billy Jenkins as Charles Shelby, Tommy’s other lad.
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Gina Gray.
- Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong.
- Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs.
Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing Helen McCrory’s Aunt Polly – she passed away in 2021, and her character was written off by the IRA. Also, Aidan Gillen and Cosmo Jarvis won’t be back since their characters, Aberama Gold and Barney Thompson, were also killed off.
Finn Cole’s Michael won’t be returning either since, well, Tommy shot him in season 6. And Tommy’s daughter, Ruby, is out of the picture too, considering she succumbed to tuberculosis.
