Alright, I concede: I was mistaken. Google has revealed 12 August as the date for its forthcoming major launch event, where we’ll witness new devices, including the Pixel 11 lineup.
The Date Guessing Game
I anticipated 18 August as the most probable date, based on the past five years of Pixel launch events and a bit of instinct. The Pixel 11 devices will debut on 12 August, so I was merely a week off.
Teaser Clues & Colours
Of course, Google hasn’t referred to the phones specifically yet, but it’s not hard to connect the dots when the invitation states: “Where the next generation of Google Pixel takes the stage.”
Additionally, the teaser displays a new Pixel phone from various perspectives, seemingly featuring a gold frame and camera bar with a shiny black back, which does not align with previously leaked details about the Pixel 11 colors.
Missing Glow & Bizarre Timing
One thing we can’t spot is any indication of the rumored Pixel Glow rear lighting feature, which is intended for subtle notifications and similar uses, although it may not be included in the Pixel 11 line.
The Made by Google event will occur in New York, but what’s peculiar is that it’s set to begin at 6pm local time (ET). That’s significantly later than usual and means it will be 11pm in the UK by that time – perhaps the World Cup has had an effect on the tech world as well.
What to Expect at the Event
We have just over a month to wait for the event. We anticipate the launch of four Pixel 11 models – a standard, two varying sizes of Pro, and the Pro Fold. Price increases are predicted for the phones, but we will have to wait for the event for confirmation.
More Gadgets on the Horizon
Google is also very likely to unveil the Pixel Watch 5 as its latest smartwatch, and there may also be additional new devices like Pixel Buds. Who knows, I might even see my desire for a Fitbit smart ring come true.
Samsung Sneaks In
This announcement came just hours after Samsung revealed 22 July as the date for its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, where we’re expecting new Galaxy Z foldable phones and the latest Galaxy Watch models.
Predicting the Unpredictable
It appears that Google is keeping us alert with its launch timelines and shiny gadgets. Bring on the 12th of August – I’ll be staying up late with my cuppa, eager to discover what these Pixel devices are all about.
