In less than a month, we will witness the upcoming major launch event by Google, and the latest teaser from the Android manufacturer provides significant insights into what’s ahead.
Launch Date & Pre-orders for Pixel 11
To begin with, Google has officially confirmed that the event on 12 August will unveil the Pixel 11 series, with pre-orders available on the same day. This announcement marks the first usage of the new model’s name, even though it was largely anticipated.
A Sneak Peek at Pixel 11’s Gleaming Gold
The teaser on the store landing page again displays the phone in a glossy gold finish. It appears to be this year’s standout color, following the Moonstone hue from the Pixel 10 Pro variants. However, the back design doesn’t align with any of the leaked shades – unless the teaser image is withholding that detail for now.
It resembles Dune (below), as depicted in Amazon images showing a gold frame alongside a coral-pinkish hue for the back panel. The rest of the landing page, adorned in a sunset sandy palette, certainly seems to endorse this, although a gold and black combination would be quite striking.
Our Initial Look at Pixel Glow
More crucially, the teaser reveals that the Pixel 11 series will feature an entirely new capability.
What’s This Pixel Glow Thing?
It’s referred to as Pixel Glow (though this terminology isn’t officially confirmed yet), and after weeks of speculation, we now see it situated within the camera flash. There was some expectation it could encircle the camera bar or potentially be integrated into the ‘G’ logo, but it’s more straightforward than those scenarios.
Details regarding this feature were revealed beforehand, indicating it would utilize “subtle light and color on the back of your device to notify you of important activity when it’s face down.”
One speculation could suggest that users might assign different colors to favored contacts to identify who is calling.
Is Pixel Glow Functional or Merely a Gimmick?
It should also illuminate while using Gemini, possibly similar to the ring light around the base of the new Google Home Speaker. It appears to be capable of showcasing a variety of colors and somewhat resembles the Apple Mac ‘beach ball of death’ when it’s moving.
We’ll need to wait until 12 August to discover its full capabilities. It will undoubtedly be the primary incentive for users to upgrade to the Pixel 11 if they currently possess a Pixel 10 – unless they are frequently swayed by new color options – as the design and specifications are expected to remain quite comparable.
