Recent Pixel Watch Updates
Google’s newest flagship smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 5, launched on 20 August, lacking some essential new features. Luckily, it won’t be long before they are available, as the company has just confirmed.
Upcoming Health Features
Blood pressure trends and insulin resistance trends will “begin rolling out to Pixel Watch this week”. These features are part of the Health Guardian package which includes Breathing Emergency Detection – available on Pixel Watch 5 and 4 in chosen European regions.
Google indicated that users will start seeing the new blood pressure and insulin metrics appear today, with the initial trend reports set to be available in early October once adequate data has been collected and processed.
Blood Pressure Insights
Google reports that six out of ten individuals are unaware of a rise in blood pressure, but it may contribute to poor heart and kidney health. While the Pixel Watch cannot provide an accurate pressure reading like the Huawei Watch D3, it calculates estimates using your pulse and movement patterns.
“This assists you in identifying persistent elevated cardiovascular trends early, enabling you to implement lifestyle modifications, verify patterns with a home blood pressure monitor, or seek advice from a healthcare professional.”
Insulin Resistance Insights
Even though it doesn’t need a blood sample, diabetics shouldn’t get overly enthusiastic as this feature is unable to measure blood sugar levels.
Rather, it “examines multi-week physiological data to track changes in your metabolic health” to determine how effectively you process energy from food. Subtle shifts over time can negatively impact your health, so recognizing them early can be crucial, prompting you to take measures to prevent further deterioration.
Additional Pixel Watches and Fitbit Air Included
You may find it surprising that Google hasn’t restricted these new Health Guardian functionalities solely to the Pixel Watch 5.
In reality, it’s quite the contrary, as those owning a Pixel Watch 3 or Pixel Watch 4 will also receive them at no cost.
The newly launched Fitbit Air is also included, but you’ll need to be a paying Google Health Premium member to access these features.
Final Thoughts
Summary: Tech Overload
Well, look who’s getting all fancy with these swanky features! While the Pixel Watch 5 may not brew you a tea, it’s definitely geared towards improving your health. Just keep in mind, it’s not a substitute for a physician, so perhaps still schedule that doctor’s appointment, yeah? Cheers!
