Samsung Gallery finally receives the enhancement from Google Photos that it requires

Samsung is finally getting its act together and launching the capability to synchronize its Gallery app with Google Photos. It’s about time, isn’t it?

Last week, the team at Samsung confirmed they are eliminating Microsoft OneDrive integration in their smartphone Gallery photo management app for some exciting Google Photos compatibility. Cheers to that!

This update is currently being rolled out, appearing through updates to the Gallery Sync, Samsung Cloud, and Samsung Gallery applications.

Our friend Ice Universe, the well-known Samsung leakster, revealed this a few days ago, substantiating it with some screenshot evidence.

This means you can now connect your Samsung Gallery to your Google account, simplifying cloud backups of your photos and videos. Pictures taken on your Samsung smartphone can also be accessed from the Google Photos app. Convenient, right?

How to Utilize the Samsung-Google Sync Feature

Google has even shared a support page regarding the new integration. All you need is a Samsung device running Android 13 or a later version (which should be manageable).

Simply launch the Samsung Gallery app, tap the Menu button in the bottom right, navigate to Settings > Sync Photos and Videos, and follow the steps to select your Google Account.

However, keep in mind that photos synced with Samsung won’t appear in Memories and highlights, live albums, or search, and it’s unavailable for Google Workspace accounts.

This Google sync feature has been available on third-party photo management applications from manufacturers like Xiaomi and Oppo for some time, so Samsung is fashionably late to the party.

The Microsoft OneDrive compatibility in the Samsung Gallery app is set to end on September 30.

Summary: Samsung Joins the Trend

Well, Samsung has finally hopped on the bandwagon with the Google Photos sync feature, and who wouldn’t appreciate a solid cloud backup? Way to go, Samsung, welcome to 2026!
