Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked Gathering: An Unexpected Introduction
Indeed, Samsung hosted its Galaxy Unpacked event in London this week. They showcased the dazzling new Galaxy Watch and those foldable Galaxy Z smartphones. However, interestingly, they chose to stay silent regarding a significant enhancement in the latest smartwatches.
Advancements in Hardware
The Galaxy Watch 9 (below) and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 (above) may appear similar to the previous editions, but inside, they boast upgraded hardware. Introducing Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon Wear Elite processor.
Software Enhancements: What’s Different?
Operating at the forefront of software, these devices utilize One UI Watch 9, based on Wear OS 7. However, Samsung didn’t exactly roll out an extravagant display for one modification in this area. No elaborate watch faces or AI health features are included this time. Instead, there’s a subtle enhancement to the software support commitment.
A Commitment to Longevity

These timepieces will now receive five years of OS support until 31 July 2031, one additional year compared to previous models like the Galaxy Watch 8. This implies that the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 might showcase Wear OS 12 by then!
Outsmarting the Rivals
Now, the pertinent question is how well they’ll perform with software over the next five years, but Samsung appears optimistic. They’re excited about the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor and their version of Wear OS. They didn’t make a big fuss about it at Unpacked — perhaps it was due to the packed agenda — but this is premium quality and could influence customers, especially with rising prices expected in 2026.
Outpacing Google in Their Own Arena
This sets a higher standard compared to Google’s Pixel Watch 4, which only offers three years of OS support. Perhaps Google will unveil something impressive with the Pixel Watch 5 series next month, but Samsung has established a new benchmark.
Indeed, Samsung’s Hidden Treasure
While everyone was busy fawning over the new Galaxy Z smartphones, Samsung quietly delivered a stellar software support revelation with its latest Galaxy Watches. A long-term partnership without the fuss? Count me in!
