Paddington Arrives on Netflix US This Week – But Was It Worth the Wait?

Well then, great news for those in the States eagerly anticipating everyone’s beloved small Peruvian bear – Paddington in Peru makes its debut on Netflix US this Thursday, 15th May 2025. Took them long enough, didn’t it?

Paddington in Peru is out on DVD and Blu-ray for those still hanging onto their collection of shiny discs like it’s 2007. You can grab it from:
Extras encompass house tours and behind-the-scenes material. Not exactly the director’s cut of Blade Runner, but it’s still something.
Streaming Choices – Netflix Is Finally Coming Around
Already on Netflix UK (cheers for that), and now making its way to Netflix US on 15th May. This Thursday – pop a marmalade sandwich in the toaster, dim the lights, and get ready for some squeaky-clean entertainment.
Seriously, I can’t figure out what took Netflix US ages. Were they passing it through an actual bear’s review process or something?
The Storyline (As If You Came For High Stakes)
Paddington returns to Peru (as if the title didn’t already make that clear), and Aunt Lucy has disappeared like my last box of protein bars. So, young Paddington heads off to the Amazon to find her, dragging along silly old Mr. and Mrs. Brown, Judy and Jonathan, along with their perpetually bemused housekeeper, Mrs. Bird.
It’s all rather sweet, though somewhat predictable. Nothing here will make you think too hard… unless you’re still trying to wrap your head around how a bear possesses a UK passport.
Cast & Voices
Paddington is still voiced by Ben Whishaw, sounding like he just stepped out of narrating a John Lewis commercial. But the standout names are:
- Hugh Bonneville – your mum’s favourite father figure
- Olivia Colman – as splendid as ever
- Emily Mortimer – honestly forgot she was in this, tbh
- Antonio Banderas – indeed, he’s still in the game
- Julie Walters – bless her, still holding strong

Summary: Paddington’s Return, But Far From Groundbreaking
Title tag: Paddington Returns… to Netflix AND to the Same Familiar Story (Once More)
If you prefer your escapades gentle, courteous, and slathered in marmalade, then Paddington in Peru will suffice. The US finally gets it on Netflix this Thursday, while the rest of us could access it via VOD or physical media for ages. Not groundbreaking television, but delightful in a “pass us a hobnob” kind of way.
If you’re in the mood for something darker or more thrilling, perhaps try watching paint dry on Pluto TV. Comparable stakes.
