For many people, conventional phone conversations are merely a minor element of their daily chitchatting.
Numerous individuals, including myself, lean significantly more on external messaging applications like WhatsApp instead of the outdated ‘Phone’ app. However, dividing your calls across several applications can be as frustrating as trying to discover a good pint in a terrible pub.
Fortunately, with Samsung’s forthcoming One UI 9, this might soon be resolved.
At Last, Calls Streamlined!
A public beta of One UI 9, Samsung’s Android 17-driven interface, is now open to Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra users.
And as SamMobile noted, there’s an exciting update to the dialler. Now, you can view call records from third-party apps directly within the Phone app. Hooray for that, Samsung!
Even more impressively, SamMobile’s screenshot reveals a Google Meet icon within the call information. Perhaps you can initiate a Meet or WhatsApp call with just a single tap? Total magic, if accurate.
The feature is enabled by default, but if you wish to modify it, just click the three-dot button in the top-right corner and navigate to Settings > Other call settings > Other calling apps to adjust or remove it.
A Few Prominent Names Absent
If you’ve stayed with us this long, you know the deal – this feature doesn’t quite encompass everything yet. While WhatsApp and Google Meet boast a large user base, some major names are absent.
These include Meta’s Messenger, Telegram, and Signal. Not to mention Discord, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams – they’re all available on mobile devices too.
For me, the absence of Messenger is the sore point, leaving the Phone app with an incomplete call history. Here’s hoping this is only the beginning and that more platforms will join in shortly.
While the One UI 9 beta is currently exclusive to Galaxy S26 smartphones, you can bet it’ll soon encompass other Samsung Galaxy devices. The complete rollout is anticipated to arrive with the next-gen foldables in July – looking at you, Galaxy Z Flip 8 series, Z Fold 8, and the newly launched Z Fold Wide.
Conclusion: Call It What You Will, It’s an Improvement!
Alright Samsung, you’ve managed it. The fresh dialler feature in One UI 9 is a fantastic enhancement, even if some significant players are still absent. It’s a small leap, but for those of us who navigate multiple calling platforms, it’s a win. Keep the updates rolling, and soon we may have a Phone app that’s more than just a glorified remnant of past technology.
