The Widespread Phone Obsession

Following the debut of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 in its novel passport-style widescreen design, speculation has begun circulating about standard phones adopting a similar format.

Introducing the Oppo Find W

First up, there’s a device known as the Oppo Find W, which the Chinese company is allegedly developing. This device, which would signify a new ‘Find’ line for Oppo, is anticipated to launch in early 2027, featuring a 16:10 aspect ratio display where ‘W’ stands for wide.

Smartphones traditionally had much shorter screens in the past but have increasingly transitioned to taller aspect ratios. A shift back in this direction is indeed plausible, at least for some models, thanks to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (below) and the forthcoming iPhone Ultra.

This would give users a phone that’s more comfortable to hold and operate, which is advantageous for certain activities like consuming a lot of video content.

The Speculation Mill

Nevertheless, the Oppo Find W speculation gaining some momentum should not be taken at face value. It originates from Tech Info, who claims it will appear alongside the Oppo Find X10 Ultra in 2027.

The account also presents the following specs for the device along with a seemingly official teaser image stating the device is “coming soon” featuring the tagline “The Future Is Wider”.

  • 6.4-inch 1.5K 16:10 LTPO OLED Display
  • Ultra Narrow Four sided Equal Bezels Design
  • Powered by Dimensity 9600 SoC

What’s Actually Happening?

The major issue is that this is far from an actual image – likely generated by AI – and was triggered by a post from infamous phone leaker Ice Universe.

His tweet displayed a comparable image of the Oppo Find W with its more angular design. It’s now erased, but a crucial detail remains in a follow-up post asserting it was “For entertainment only, don’t take it seriously.”

This doesn’t imply that Oppo, or another handset maker, won’t introduce a device of this nature. In fact, it appears likely that at least one will attempt it, but don’t start saving for a Find W just yet.
