Samsung Missed the Mark: Galaxy Unpacked Disappointment – GadgetLad

Galaxy Unpacked Hits and Misses

This week’s Galaxy Unpacked was a successful event, marking the debut of new Galaxy Z foldable devices, Galaxy Watch wearables, and a fresh glimpse at the forthcoming Galaxy Glasses, yet there was a notable absence…

Where’s the Galaxy Ring 2?

Nonetheless, something I anticipated was conspicuously absent from the London event… the Galaxy Ring 2.

I tuned into the Unpacked live stream until it concluded, hoping for a surprise reveal of the smart ring. After all, that was how Samsung first introduced the original model back at Unpacked in January 2024, leaving everyone astonished.

It took six months for the Galaxy Ring to be properly launched, aligning perfectly with Samsung’s July 2026 Unpacked for a two-year refresh of its smart ring.

Unfortunately, the sole mention of the Galaxy Ring was that the original would be the first smart ring approved (FDA-cleared) for detecting sleep apnea. That’s fantastic for current users, but it’s high time for a sequel.

Samsung appears to be in no rush for the Galaxy Ring 2. The company has officially acknowledged it is developing a successor to the original model but has provided no insights into the timeline.

When seeking a comment, I received the usual response, stating: “Samsung doesn’t speculate or comment on future product launches.”

Better Late Than Never?

It’s rumored to debut in early 2027, so we might see it at Unpacked with the Galaxy S27 series. While it embodies the principle of ‘better late than never’, I still perceive it as a lost opportunity for Samsung this year.

Oura introduced the Ring 5 far earlier than anticipated, and it’s also a significant year for screenless fitness trackers with the debut of the Fitbit Air and Garmin Cirqa, just to name a couple.

Samsung ought to be acting now when potential customers are considering purchasing those budget-friendly smart bands or upgrading their outdated and likely worn Galaxy Ring for an Oura Ring 5 or another competitor.

It would have made a perfect partner to accompany the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2, as utilizing them together would presumably yield better data and extended battery life like the Galaxy Ring currently achieves with Samsung’s smartwatches, yet it appears the wait continues and may persist for some time.

Well, This is Awkward…

The Galaxy Unpacked event came and went, leaving tech enthusiasts with a blend of anticipation and disappointment. Although they showcased some shiny new gadgets, the lack of the Galaxy Ring 2 left a significant gap. Here’s hoping for better news next year, right?
