The season finale left viewers with a significant cliffhanger, prompting a burning question: when will season 3 arrive? The answer to that question is complex, but we’ve compiled what we know currently.

Will there be Peacemaker season 3?
Unfortunately, James Gunn has not given a straightforward answer to this inquiry. The cliffhanger at the conclusion of season 2 is designed to set the stage for the next Superman film, Man of Tomorrow, rather than for a possible season 3.
In the Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, James Gunn remarked:
This is the last episode of Peacemaker season two; and perhaps the last for Peacemaker.
We are firm believers in Peacemaker, the show and its characters. Peacemaker will return, but whether it will be as this TV show remains to be seen. We have plans, but you will see all these characters in the future of the DCU, and not too far off.
This implies that while Peacemaker is destined to come back in future DC projects, his standalone series may not be renewed for another season.

Gunn reiterated his previous statement in an interview with Deadline:
No, this is about the larger DCU and other narratives that will unfold at this time. That doesn’t mean there won’t be. I’m hesitant to say never, but for now, this is focused on the future of the DCU. It’s a significant character.
It appears that while Gunn is not discounting a third season of Peacemaker, the broader progression of the DC universe takes precedence. Thus, another installment of the series may emerge, but it is unlikely to occur in the immediate future.
Man of Tomorrow is set to debut on 9 July 2027. Thus, if Peacemaker season 3 were to happen, it will almost certainly be post-summer 2027.

What could Peacemaker season 3 entail?

Should Peacemaker be renewed for a third season, its narrative may be shaped by other DC productions. Thus far, James Gunn has confirmed the following upcoming releases:

It’s uncertain if Chris and his companions will feature in any of the aforementioned films and series, but it seems likely—especially in Superman 2. Regardless of whether season 3 is produced, we must discover how the following plotlines progress:

Chris held captive on Salvation
In the finale of Peacemaker season 2, we finally discovered Rick Flag Sr.’s search for an alternative, livable world—he aimed to establish a place to imprison metahumans. In the closing moments of the season, Chris is captured by the A.R.G.U.S. team, and as part of Rick’s vendetta for his son’s death, he is abandoned on Salvation, a prison planet.
James Gunn has already disclosed that Salvation will play a significant role in the DC universe—it’s confirmed that the planet will feature in Man of Tomorrow. In the comics, this alternate reality was depicted in a series published from 2007 to 2008, detailing the exploits of various well-known superheroes and villains.
As James Gunn stated (via Variety):
It truly revolves around the concept. The part that resonated most with me was the beginning, where Rick Flag Jr. and Amanda Waller [said], ‘Forget it. Metahumans are a nuisance. They keep escaping. Let’s eliminate them permanently.’ And obviously, there are numerous consequences for banishing various villains to another dimension. In this case, there’s a good guy who must fend for himself.
What will happen to Chris on Salvation? What creatures exist on this uncharted planet? Will Peacemaker find a way to break free from the prison? We might learn more in Man of Tomorrow, but if that doesn’t happen, the narrative will have to continue in season 3 of the show.

The Checkmate Agency
The so-called 11th Street Kids—Chris, Adebayo, Harcourt, Economos, and Adrian—formed a new agency focused on crime-fighting known as Checkmate. They were joined by agent Sasha Bordeaux, Judomaster, and agent Langston Fleury, all of whom became disillusioned with working for A.R.G.U.S.
It turns out, the Checkmate Agency will be yet another plotline, following Salvation, in the new DC universe. Gunn noted (via Variety):
It truly brings together the 11th Street Kids and their aspiration to do good. I believe they will excel at what they do. When we see them next, their situation will differ from their current start-up phase.
If Peacemaker season 3 is produced, we will likely see the agency in action. It’s also feasible that Checkmate will play a crucial role in rescuing Chris from Salvation.

Keith’s retribution
Even if Chris manages to escape the prison planet, it doesn’t mean he’s out of danger. In an alternate reality, which turned out to be a Nazi version of the United States, Keith Smith remains—seeking vengeance on Peacemaker and his friends for the deaths of his brother and father.
To discover the dimension where the 11th Street Kids reside, Keith would need to find a way to open a multiverse portal—this could potentially take place in the third season. Central to Peacemaker’s themes is family trauma. Thus, the narrative of a brother from an alternate universe seeking revenge would serve as a strong premise for the series’ forthcoming season.
Chris and Emilia’s romantic journey
At the close of season 2, Chris finally engaged with agent Harcourt. While it can’t yet be termed a relationship, Peacemaker and Emilia did share a date at a Foxy Shazam concert. We hope their romance flourishes in the upcoming season.
